Where Alabama’s Senior Bowl participants stand ahead of NFL Draft

The annual Senior Bowl held in Mobile, Alabama, took place from Jan. 27-31, and Alabama had a trio of participants. The event allowed players to showcase traits for scouts to evaluate ahead of the NFL Draft. Here’s where the former members of the Crimson Tide stand.

Recently graduated Alabama seniors defensive lineman Tim Keenan III, edge rusher LT Overton and tight end Josh Cuevas participated throughout the week in this invite-only event, which allowed fans and scouts to hear them interviewed and see their talents on display.

Keenan talked about the energy he brings to the table.

“I’m a momentum starter, I’m a momentum shifter. I make your job easier,” Keenan said.

As a nose tackle, it’s harder to have an impact on the stat sheet, but Keenan consistently stood out throughout Senior Bowl week. He resembled his recent performances at Alabama, plugging up interior gaps and holding stout against the run. Keenan also performed well in his one-on-one reps, which signaled his potential to contribute as a pass rusher.

Overton also had a productive week in Mobile. During the Senior Bowl game, Overton had a busy day on the stat sheet, recording a sack, a tackle for loss and an additional tackle. These statistics were recorded in limited reps, as seniors were frequently rotated in and out.

Overton’s sack exemplified the strength of his bull-rush, which could prove to be a valuable asset in pass-rush situations.

“When you have a difference maker like that off the edge, it certainly changes your defense,” Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack said of Overton before the Rose Bowl game.

On the offensive side of the ball, Cuevas’ statistics in the Senior Bowl game didn’t pop out, but he offered insight into his game through the practices and interviews.

Cuevas, a former FCS wide receiver from Cal Poly who converted to tight end, made several impressive catches in the practices leading up to the game.

Cuevas can create separation but also be a willing blocker in the run game. While Cuevas doesn’t always fill the stat sheet, he provides measurables beyond the game.

“What stood out to me is his character. He took the time to speak with almost every young fan and took several interviews when he could’ve declined,” scout Larry Rudolph said.

With Senior Bowl week concluded, Keenan, Overton and Cuevas will prepare for the NFL Combine and NFL Draft in the upcoming months.
