So Who’s the Blackhawks’ Fastest Skater?

Earlier this week, Hawks6 in the comments section asked about the fastest skaters on the Blackhawks right now. Which was a question I had floating around in the back of my brain for a while, but the question sparked me digging in as we got to the NHL’s Olympic break.

Using NHL EDGE data, I did some digging on the Blackhawks’ team speed. The Blackhawks’ youngsters possess impressive speed. But who’s using it, and how frequently, was interesting.

As a team, the Blackhawks have 53 speed bursts of at least 22 mph. Before the final two game nights of the NHL schedule, Chicago ranked 16th. Then the Hawks played in Columbus… and everyone else had games. The Blackhawks’ team total didn’t change — not a surprise after watching the effort. But their league rank fell two spots to 18th in the league.

Among those 53 bursts of at least 22+ mph, Frank Nazar has 11 (94th percentile), Ilya Mikheyev has 7, Oliver Moore and Connor Bedard have 6 each and Wyatt Kaiser has 3 (90th percentile among defensemen).
