In honor of the Lynyrd Skynyrd classic 1976 album Gimme Back My Bullets turning 50 years old this year, the iconic rock band will be re-pressing the album on vinyl in a special edition release.
Gimme Back My Bullets is the band's fourth studio album which includes some of Lynyrd Skynyrd's greatest hits, such as the title track and the acoustic tune "All I Can Do is Write About It." Both songs, along with the rest of the album's track list, will be included in the 50th anniversary vinyl release, which is pressed on red, black and yellow vinyl to create a psychedelic, multicolor swirl pattern unique to each individual unit.
The vinyl record is currently available for pre-order through The Sound of Vinyl and uDiscover Music for $29.99 and is set to ship out on Feb. 27.
When Gimme Back My Bullets was first released in 1976, Lynyrd Skynyrd was at a shaky point of their career. The band was determined to recover after their previous album Nuthin' Fancy had underperformed, and despite growing tensions between some of the band members, they managed to release the album to moderately positive reviews at the time. Today it’s often viewed as a transitional, underrated record—an honest snapshot of a band fighting to steady itself before its final, tragic chapter, when a horrific plane crash took the lives of lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and guitarist Steve Gaines, along with backup singer Cassie Gaines, the band's assistant road manager and the two co-pilots.
Though none of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd members survive today, the band's legacy continues to live on. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted the band in 2006, and the band continues to tour today with a new lineup of rockers, including Johnny Van Zant, Ronnie's younger brother. Lynyrd Skynyrd will be hitting the road alongside another cornerstone rock band Foreigner in 2026 for the "Double Trouble Double Vision" tour, which will kick off on July 23.
This new exclusive 50th anniversary release breathes new life into an old cult classic, reminding Lynyrd Skynyrd fans that they'll always be able to remember and enjoy the band's music across all eras as if they were brand new.
