After years of making beer and becoming one of the defining breweries in the city, Angel City Brewery is closing its Arts District brewery.
The closure of the brewery was announced on Angel City’s Facebook page on Feb. 4.
“Alrighty everybody, we hate to say it, but it needs to be said — we’re going to be closing the brewery on April 30, 2026. Now that we’ve got that covered, we’ve still got a few more months left to hang and celebrate with y’all. A few months to raise a glass to all the beer, art, and memories we’ve created together in this space over the past 15 years,” the post read.
Angel City was launched in Culver City in 1997 by Michael Bowe, an early adherent of the craft beer movement. The former gaffer and writer in the film industry started home brewing in the late 1980s when he got a mail-order beer kit. He quickly made a name for his beer by winning several awards including the California Home Brewer of the Year prize in 1995 and ’96.
In 2011 he opened his brewery in a sprawling 100-year-old building in the Arts District at 216 S. Alameda St. with the capacity to produce more than 1,000 barrels a year.
The brewery, which was later bought out by the Boston Beer Company, quickly became a popular hangout spot with live music, food trucks and served as a gathering spot for Los Angeles Dodgers fans who hung out there before and after games. The beer was also sold at bars and grocery stores. Calls to the brewery on Thursday morning were not returned by press time.

“It’s official, just posted on their socials. Damn, what a loss for the Arts District, Little Tokyo, and DTLA as a whole,” one post read.
“I’m sad the brewery is shutting down I have a lot of memories there. Here’s hoping the building isn’t bought out and replaced with a soulless shopping mall or food hall,” another post noted.
But according to Angel City’s post, there is still time to knock down a pint or two at the Arts District venue.
“We’ve got a few more events lined up, and there’s still plenty of beer left to drink. Heck, we may even start giving away a bunch of merch (ACB koozie or playing cards anyone?). We’re packing a lot in between now and our final day of service on April 30, so keep an eye on our stories and our website for major updates,” the Facebook post stated.
