The Arizona Cardinals have interviewed Atlanta Falcons offensive assistant K.J. Black for their quarterbacks coach opening, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
He’s the first reported name linked to the vacancy since Arizona brought on new head coach Mike LaFleur and most recently offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
Black most recently worked as a Falcons offensive assistant the past two seasons under former head coach Raheem Morris. Morris now resides in the NFC West as the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator.

Before his time in Atlanta, Black worked alongside LaFleur, who was the Rams offensive coordinator from 2023-25, and head coach Sean McVay in Los Angeles.
He started off as a diversity coaching fellow with the Rams in 2022 before earning the promotion of offensive assistant the following year, working mainly with the quarterbacks.
Quarterbacks coach is one of many positions still needing filled this offseason. While Hackett is onboard as Arizona’s OC, the Cardinals are still on the search for defensive and special teams coordinators on top of the many positional roles up for grabs.
“We are casting a wide net,” LaFleur said during Tuesday’s introductory press conference. “There’s conversations that need to be had within this building first with the coaches and all that. We’re going to be open to that. We owe it to these players to build the best staff that we can for these guys.”
Prior to LaFleur’s arrival in Arizona, Israel Woolfork served as the Cardinals’ QBs coach from 2023-25.
He’s now headed to the Baltimore Ravens as their QBs coach, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Woolfork was also reportedly blocked from several openings this hiring cycle.
