Police declared an unlawful assembly on Wednesday during an anti-ICE protest near City Hall as demonstrators gathered in downtown Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Police Department said the declaration was made at about 3:10 p.m. Wednesday as officers monitored protest activity in the area.
Several dozen demonstrators also gathered at Temple and Alameda streets near the federal building, and a broadcast report said police issued a dispersal order there.
It was not clear whether the two demonstrations were connected.
Authorities did not immediately release additional details, including whether any arrests were made.
The protests can on the hells of the arrests of more than four dozen anti-ICE protesters in L.A. on Saturday, the second night of a nationwide movement to end funding for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Officer Norma Eisenman, an LAPD spokeswoman, said police made 51 arrests Saturday evening, with 47 adults and three juveniles cited and released for failure to disperse. One person was arrested on suspicion of felony evading, she added. Saturday’s protests came after violence broke out Friday night, when multiple protesters were arrested for throwing objects at federal agents at downtown’s Metropolitan Detention Center.
