Cameron Mathison is keeping up to date with his routine cancer screenings.
The soap opera star shared a health update with his fans on Instagram this week as he visited the hospital to undergo testing 6 years after battling kidney cancer.

Sharing a series of photos and video footage from USC's Keck Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif., on Wednesday, Feb. 4, Mathison, 56, documented "six-year cancer checkup day," as he underwent blood work, a CT scan and X-rays.

The General Hospital star was previously diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma, a type of kidney cancer, back in 2019. After getting an MRI for lingering gastrointestinal issues, his doctors discovered a tumor on his right kidney.
"In my heart, I’d known something was wrong, but actually hearing the diagnosis was bizarre. It felt like a dream that seemed so real, but one I wanted to wake up from," Mathison is quoted on the Patient Resource website.
"[The doctor] said it didn’t appear to have spread anywhere else and wasn’t in my lymph nodes, which was good," Cameron said. He was then sent to a specialist to have the tumor removed the following Monday.
During surgery, his doctor successfully removed 20 percent of his right kidney, along with the tumor.
He was released from the hospital just four days later and was back on set of his Hallmark channel talk show, Home and Family, 15 days later.
Now cancer-free for several years, Mathison continues to prioritize a healthy lifestyle and routine check-ups like the testing he had done on Wednesday.
"Good luck friend ❤️" Good Morning America host Lara Spencer commented under Mathison's Instagram post, while more users sent the actor "positive energy" and hopes for a "clean bill of health."
