Maeline Bessard from Lyon, France has announced her commitment to continue her academic and athletic careers at Florida beginning in fall 2026.
Bessard swims for Nautic Club Alp’38 and represents France at the international level. This past summer, she swam at the 2025 European Junior Championships. There she made semifinals of the 200 free, finishing 14th in a 2:01.64. She also was 22nd in the 100 free in a 56.68. In addition to her individual swims, she helped France to a 4th place finish in the girls 4×200 free relay, splitting a 2:02.10 on the lead off leg.
Her best time in the 200 free sits at a 2:00.32 which she swam at the 2024 European Junior Championships. That earned her a 6th place finish in the final.
Bessard’s Best LCM Times (With SCY Conversions) Are:
100 free: 55.90 (48.91) 200 free: 2:00.32 (1:45.51) 400/500 free: 4:17.78 (4:48.82)The Florida women finished 2nd out of 13 teams at the 2025 SEC Championships with 1179 points. The team went on to finish 6th at the 2025 NCAA Championships with 232 points.
Based on her best converted times, Bessard is a huge addition to the roster for the Gators. Her 200 free time would have made the 2025 SEC ‘B’ final. It took a 4:44.88 in the 500 free and a 48.82 in the 100 free to earn a 2nd swim at 2025 SECs. In addition to her individual impact, Bessard also has the potential to be a relay boost as her best converted 100 and 200 free times would be #3 on the roster so far this season.
Bessard will arrive this fall along with Valentina Procaccini, Lillie McPherson, Kim Bomin, and Maddie Moreth. It is a international heavy class as Kim arrives from South Korea, McPherson Australia, and Procaccini Italy.
