The Weld County Coroner’s Office identified the two Loveland men that were killed in a single-vehicle crash following a high speed chase from Loveland to Weld County early Sunday morning, according to an emailed press release from the coroner’s office.
The men were identified as 23-year-old Jose Meza and 19-year-old X-avier Cruz, the press release stated. Both were Loveland residents.
At around 4:15 a.m. Sunday, a Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputy pursued their vehicle because it appeared to not have lights or a license plate, a press release stated. The deputy pursued the vehicle from East 57th Street and North Garfield Avenue in Loveland onto Interstate 25 until it eventually exited Interstate 25 and crashed near the intersection of Pheasant Crest Drive and Weld County Road 84.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a power pole, the press release stated. Both men were ejected from the vehicle; one of them was pronounced dead on scene and the other died in the hospital.
A woman was also in the vehicle, but she survived with moderate injuries and is now recovering, said Larimer County Public Information Officer Kate Kimble in a text message.
