Figure skating, snowboarding, curling, hockey and more begin early at 2026 Olympics

The 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics begin this week, but the actual events start earlier than you might think — and that includes major sports like ice hockey, snowboarding and figure skating.

While the Opening Ceremony is set for Friday, the Games actually begin Wednesday.

    When are the Olympics?

    The first Olympic events begin on Feb. 4, but the Opening Ceremony is set for Feb. 6. Live coverage of the event starts at 1 p.m. CT and is expected to last three hours.

    The first medals will be awarded starting Feb. 7.

    The Games will continue until the Closing Ceremony on Feb. 22.

    Which events can you watch this week?

    The first events will be alpine skiing, which begins training Wednesday, luge and curling. Ski jumping, snowboarding, figure skating and ice hockey will also kick off before the official launch of the Games.
