An old friend has found a new coaching home as former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy is reportedly joining the New York Giants.
Just when you thought Nagy might be left on the outside looking in when it came to finding a coaching job in the NFL, the former Chicago Bears head coach found a soft landing. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports Matt Nagy will be the New York Giants’ new offensive coordinator:

Matt Nagy was the Bears head coach from 2018-21. He was the NFL’s Coach of the Year in 2019 for his efforts as a first-year head coach and ultimately guided Chicago’s football team to a 34-31 record while running the show at Halas Hall. Heck, Nagy helped lead the Bears to the postseason in two of his first three years with the team. That seems to be something that gets lost in the cracks while discussing the Nagy era.
But the wheels fell off in Year 4, leading to upper management pulling the plug on the Matt Nagy-Ryan Pace era in Chicago. Things didn’t get immediately better for the Bears, who replaced one Matt (Nagy) with another (Eberflus) and saw things actually get worse. But all is well that ends well when the roads lead to Ben Johnson as the head coach and Caleb Williams pulling the trigger as QB1 — right?
MATT NAGY REFLECTS ON HIS TIME COACHING THE BEARS: “I FAILED IN A LOT OF AREAS”
As for Nagy, he returned to the Kansas City Chiefs after his dismissal by the Bears. First, he served as a senior assistant and quarterbacks coach in 2022. Then, from 2023-25, Nagy was the offensive coordinator under Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid. For what it’s worth, Nagy was a part of a pair of Super Bowl-winning coaching staffs in Kansas City. On his end, there was hope that he would parlay his time with the Chiefs into a second chance as a head coach. That never materialized. Instead, K.C. re-hired Eric Bieniemy as its OC, which left Nagy looking for a new gig.
In the end, Matt Nagy finds himself getting to call offensive plays for quarterback Jaxson Dart and wide receiver Malik Nabers while coaching with John Harbaugh’s New York Giants. Even though Nagy and Harbaugh never coached together, both are branches from the Andy Reid tree. Harbaugh coached for Reid in Philadelphia from 1998-2007, while Nagy was with the Eagles from 2008-12. I hope Nagy finds some good fortune in his new environment. The NFL loves a good bounce-back story.
