ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The group PUSH Physical Theatre is celebrating 25 years on stage in Rochester. Known for performances at the Geva Theatre and the annual Fringe Festival, PUSH has become a staple in the local arts scene.
Physical theater is a genre that emphasizes performers’ movements and gestures as a means of storytelling.
“Push’s creative process is actually quite unique, in that we don’t choreograph movement and then set it on performers,” said Darren Stevenson, co-founding artistic director of Push Physical Theatre. “We start by improvising movement together as a community, believing that each person, each artist, brings their own unique life experiences to the work.”
PUSH’s next show, HOME[Sic], will be at Geva on March 13. You can learn more here. The group says it values community input in developing its shows, which is why it is hosting a free community feedback event from 6 to 7 p.m. at Geva’s Fielding Stage.
