Savannah Guthrie's mom, Nancy Guthrie, was abducted from her bed inside her Arizona home, authorities say. Now, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos reveals that investigators have reason to believe Guthrie was "harmed" during the abduction.
"[Nanos] would not tell us the extent of those injuries," NBC News reporter Liz Kreutz explained on Monday, February 2. "I was just in the neighborhood where this happened with some members of the community driving around with a photo of Nancy, desperately trying to find anyone who may have seen her."
Nanos explained that Guthrie "could not walk out of that home 50 yards."
"We believe she was taken out of the home against her will, and that is how this investigation is moving," he added.
The mother of three was last seen Saturday evening by her eldest daughter, Annie.
"We have a start point. The family took her home from dinner at about 9:30 to 9:45 [p .m.]" Nanos told Us Weekly. "So we would back that up to even say 9 or 8:30 p.m. to start looking."
Guthrie—who turned 84 on January 27—was likely celebrating her birthday with family.
"This is an 84-year-old lady who is safe in her own home asleep, and she is taken. That should never happen," Nanos told the outlet.
In addition to likely being "harmed," Guthrie is also without her life-saving medication.
"Look, if she is alive right now, her meds are vital," Nanos told NBC News. "I can’t stress that enough, you know. I has been better than 24 hours, and the family tells us, if she doesn’t have those meds, it could be fatal."
