In honor of Black History Month, Days of Our Lives star Jackée Harry is reflecting on the historical figures who have inspired her throughout her life.
Harry shared her thoughts in a video posted on the official Days of Our Lives Instagram account, where she explained what Black History Month represents to her. “Black history month to me is a set of history figures who have inspired me my whole life,” Harry said. “Of course, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King.”
She went on to name several civil rights leaders whose legacies continue to resonate. “Rosa Parks who didn’t give up her seat on the bus, John Lewis who led the fight for the voting rights,” Harry said, referencing the movement that ultimately led to the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965.
Harry also highlighted figures whose contributions are sometimes overlooked by others. “John B. Russwurm, who was the first publisher of the first black newspaper, The Freedom Journal,” she added.
She concluded by naming another influential voice in American history. “And believe it or not Dr. Maya Angelou. Those are the people that means a lot to me during Black History Month.”
