Several Chicago-area hospitals ranked on Healthgrades’ latest report on “America’s Best Hospitals” for 2026, with one suburban hospital ranking in the top 1% of hospitals nationwide.
The report, released Jan. 27 by doctor and hospital review site Healthgrades, evaluated the overall clinical performance of approximately 4,500 hospitals across the country. From there, organizers ranked them in categories of top 50, top 100 and top 250.
Medical outcomes for more than two dozen common procedures and conditions were evaluated as part of the analysis, a news release said, using Medicare inpatient data from Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MedPAR).
“Patient outcomes data for 31 conditions or procedures were analyzed for virtually every hospital in the country,” the release said, including heart attack, sepsis, stroke, spinal fusion, prostate removal surgery, total knee replacement and more.
“This year’s America’s Best Hospitals list gives patients a clearer picture of where high-quality care is delivered most consistently, helping them understand their options and feel confident in choosing the care that’s right for them,” Dr. Alana Biggers, MPH, medical advisor at Healthgrades said in the release.
The 50 best hospitals are considered the top 1% of hospitals nationwide for overall clinical performance, the list said. The 100 best hospitals were the top 2%, and the 250 best hospitals were the best 5%, the report said.
Only one Chicago area hospital, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, made the list of 50 Best Hospitals in the nation, with the ranking saying the hospital earned the accolade “for providing the highest clinical quality year over year.”
The hospital also earned a specialty awards in Critical Care and Stroke Care, the report showed.
Several other Chicago area hospitals ranked on the report’s Best 100 and Best 250 Hospitals list, with each list ranking the hospitalis in alphabetical order. Here’s a breakdown of where they landed:
