RIYADH — Saudi Grand Mufti, Chairman of the Council of Senior Scholars and Head of the Presidency of Scientific Research and Ifta Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan has assigned several members of the Council of Senior Scholars (CSS) to issue religious edicts (fatwas) in various regions of the Kingdom. This assignment is in accordance with the royal decree restricting the issuance of fatwas to CSS members.The assigned members are the following: Sheikh Yusuf bin Muhammad, at the branches of the Presidency in the Tabuk and Al-Jouf regions; Sheikh Muhammad Mazid, at the branch of the Presidency in the Madinah region; Sheikh Jibreel Al-Busaili, at the branches of the Presidency in the Asir and Jazan regions; Sheikh Ghalib Hamzi, at the branches of the Presidency in the Al-Baha and Najran regions; Sheikh Sami Al-Suqair, at the branches of the Presidency in the Qassim and Hail regions; Sheikh Bandar Balila, at the Presidency branch in Makkah; and Sheikh Abdul-Ilah Al-Mulla, at the Presidency branches in the Eastern Province and Northern Borders regions. Secretary General of the Council of Senior Scholars Sheikh Fahd Al-Majed said that this appointment comes within the framework of the royal decree restricting the issuance of fatwas to CSS members. This will ensure that fatwas are received from their approved sources and contribute to increasing the connection between the Council members and the community throughout the Kingdom, in accordance with a vision aimed at facilitating access to fatwas for those seeking them. He said that the General Presidency for Scientific Research and Ifta will work to ensure that these scholars can perform their fatwa-issuing duties with ease. This includes supporting them with a research staff of over 80 specialists in Islamic jurisprudence, as well as activating digital solutions. Sheikh Al-Majed stated that assigning CSS members to issue fatwas in various regions of the Kingdom ensures that fatwas are issued from reliable and authoritative sources. “This is a cornerstone of consolidating the values of moderation and balance, as fatwas that adhere to the principles of Islamic law and are based on a sound scholarly understanding are among the most important factors in promoting moderation and equilibrium,” he said.
