Chicago Bulls native son Ayo Dosunmu is having himself a season. The 6-foot-4 University of Illinois and Morgan Park product is on an expiring $7.5 million contract, and it appears he could fetch a lot of value on the trade market this week — prior to earning a big raise in summer free agency.
Through 43 healthy bouts this season, Dosunmu has been averaging 15.1 points while slashing .518/.454/.850, plus 3.6 dimes, 2.9 boards, and 0.7 steals a night. He’s one of the Bulls’ best two-way players, a capable defender who has fleshed out his shooting efficiency this season as Billy Donovan’s favorite reserve.
The latest smoke: Stefan Bondy of The New York Post listed Dosunmu as “a name to watch” for the New York Knicks ahead of the Feb. 5 deadline — but cautions that Chicago may have a steep asking price for the sixth man.
Bondy isn’t the only Knicks beat reporter floating the possibility of Dosunmu for New York at the deadline. The Athletic‘s James L. Edwards III also makes the connection, while suggesting that key reserve guard Miles McBride and his $4.3 million deal for 2025-26 (he’s also under contract next year) might need to be included to incentivize the Bulls.
Dosunmu seems likely to at least double his current salary this summer, should he hit free agency. Although the Bulls are allegedly contemplating an extension deal for the 26-year-old, it might behoove him to keep his options open even if Chicago does retain him through the trade deadline. He’s far too talented to idle away the rest of his prime on a team that seems to be content on making the play-in but missing the playoffs every year.
The veteran swingman acquitted himself well during Chicago’s recent three-game miniseries against the Miami Heat. Dosunmu was the only reason the Bulls were in the hunt against the Heat on both Thursday and Saturday. Although his 3-pointers were falling, he prioritized interior drives for easy buckets late.
Chicago didn’t quite survive the Heat on Thursday, but the Bulls miraculously upset Miami at Kaseya Center on Sunday.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) February 1, 2026How Ayo Dosunmu Could Fit for the Knicks
Dosunmu can play at either guard position, while the 6-foot-2 McBride is purely a point guard. Dosunmu’s off-ball ability could make him a better backcourt fit alongside three-time All-Star Knicks starting point guard Jalen Brunson. But Dosunmu’s scoring versatility as a playmaker could endear him to New York during the moments Brunson sits.
Under new head coach Mike Brown, the Knicks have regressed defensively but seemed to have been initially refreshed on the other end. Until recently.
New York kicked off 2026 with a dismal 2-9 run in January, but seems to have recovered a bit from that nosedive lately. The Knicks are currently on a six-game win streak, capped off most recently by a 112-100 victory against the Austin Reaves-less Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday.
At 31-18, the Knicks are tied by record with the Boston Celtics, but boast the Eastern Conference’s No. 2 seed by benefit of a tiebreaker. The 36-12 Detroit Pistons might feel borderline uncatchable, but the Knicks still have a good shot at holding on to a homecourt advantage in at least the first round. Still, just 3.5 games separate New York from the No. 6-seeded Philadelphia 76ers, so every win is precious.
