GREECE, N.Y. — Despite the cold weather, some outdoor enthusiasts took to Braddock Bay for ice fishing. They set up eight lines and caught a yellow perch.
News10NBC photojournalist Dan Mauer was present when one of the fishermen made another catch. The fishermen demonstrated a sonar device used to locate fish.
“It’s more helpful in deeper water,” one of the fishermen said.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) says not to go on ice if it’s two inches thick or thinner. Activities such as ice fishing are considered safe at four inches thick or thicker.
