The hiring was a quick pivot for the Cardinals after the Las Vegas Raiders were reportedly expected to hire the Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak on Sunday. Kubiak had met with the Raiders and Cardinals for second interviews on Sunday.
The Cardinals hired LaFleur after meeting with several candidates following the firing of previous head coach Jonathan Gannon. Those included Kubiak, Robert Saleh, Ron Rivera, Anthony Campanile, Joe Brady and more.
The Cardinals’ hiring of LaFleur was met with generally positive reactions.

Former Rams offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth was a fan of the hire, noting the Rams and coach Sean McVay will now have to hire another offensive coordinator. LaFleur’s hire now marks the seventh staffer and fourth offensive coordinator under McVay to be hired as an NFL head coach.
