ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Announced on Sunday, Governor Hochul has declared the month of February to be Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. This is meant to highlight the state’s Leadership in Digital Safety and Youth Violence Prevention to protect teens.
It’s part of a larger state initiative to protect teens in the current digital age, pushing to improve online safety, youth mental health, and gender-based violence online.
“Every New Yorker deserves to build healthy and supportive relationships online and offline while feeling safe and protected,” Governor Hochul said.
Multiple state landmarks will be lit up orange on Sunday evening, honoring the initiative. Locations such as the One World Trade Center, the State Education Building, and Niagara Falls will be orange.
Locally, the Fairport Lift Bridge over the Erie Canal will also be lit.
