Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department clears fire hydrants of snow Saturday

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — Volunteer firefighters with the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department went out Saturday to clear fire hydrants of snow throughout the department’s district.

The department said on social media nearly 40 hydrants were cleared to make sure they are easily accessible in the event of a fire.

“Having hydrants accessible saves firefighters critical time during an emergency, and that time can make all the difference,” the department said in the post.

The department also thanked town residents in the post for clearing hydrants near their homes. Previously, the department advised people to keep a three-foot clearance around fire hydrants.
