A newly released batch of federal documents is shedding light on past communications between Elon Muskand the late Jeffrey Epstein, including emails that reference potential visits to Epstein’s private Caribbean island.
The emails were included in a massive release from the U.S. Department of Justice on Friday, January 30, part of millions of files connected to investigations into Epstein, who was arrested on sex trafficking charges in 2019 and later died by suicide while awaiting trial.
In one exchange from November 2012, Epstein asked Musk how many people would be joining him on a helicopter trip to the island. The Tesla CEO replied, “Probably just Talulah and me,” referencing actress Talulah Riley, who was his partner at the time. Musk then followed up with a message asking, “What day/night will be the wildest party on your island?”
A separate email exchange dated December 2013 shows Musk saying that he will be in the area and if it was a “good time to visit.” The documents do not indicate whether any visit ever took place, and Musk has previously said he never traveled to Epstein’s island.
Other correspondence included in the release shows Epstein reaching out to Musk about potential business-related favors. In 2012, Epstein asked whether SolarCity—a company closely associated with Musk and later acquired by Tesla in 2016—could assist with providing power to his island or a ranch in New Mexico. The emails show Musk followed up with a SolarCity contact regarding the request.

After the documents began circulating, Musk addressed the renewed attention in a post on X the following day, criticizing the focus on selective disclosures. “What matters is not [the] release of some subset of the Epstein files, but rather the prosecution of those who committed heinous crimes with Epstein,” he wrote in the post, before adding, “When there is at least one arrest, some justice will have been done. If not, this is all performative. Nothing but a distraction.”
