Mizzou sophomore guard Annor Boateng had to be taken off the floor on a stretcher Saturday afternoon after suffering a gruesome injury during the Tigers’ SEC showdown against Missisippi State.
The 6-foot-6, 220-pound Boateng went up for a dunk that was supposed to bring the home crowd to its feet in Columbia. Instead, it appeared that one of Boateng’s legs completely gave out, causing Boateng to collapse to the floor and bringing the stretcher out to remove him from the floor.
According to Joey Van Zummeren, who covers Mizzou for Missouri Tigers On SI, Boateng had made a “really impressive dunk on the last possession,” and he was headed to the basket again “but slipped and fell on his back.”
Boateng was “laying on the court under the basket for a minute,” before the stretcher came out and removed the Little Rock, Ark., native.
After his afternoon was limited to 3 minutes because of the freak injury, Boateng gathered himself emotionally when being stretchered off and showed appreciation to the home fans, who gave him a standing ovation.

Mizzou paid tribute to Boateng by holding on for an 84-79 victory over the Bulldogs, improving the Tigers to 15-7 overall and 5-4 in the SEC.
