Danica McKellar is honoring nearly 40 years of the coming-of-age series, The Wonder Years.
TV Insider reported that in a January 31 Instagram upload, McKellar noted that The Wonder Years premiered exactly 38 years ago. She also posted several behind-the-scenes images from the show, which ended in 1993 after a six-season run.
"Happy 38th (!) Anniversary to The Wonder Years! On January 31st, 1988, we premiered on ABC immediately following the Superbowl, and my life would be forever changed. I'm so grateful for the incredible memories, but even more grateful for all of you who have followed my career for so many years. I love that, unlike 38 years ago, we have opportunities to connect through social media!" wrote McKellar, who famously portrayed Winnie Cooper on the show.
She also encouraged Wonder Years fans to share their "favorite memories" from the show.
Several fans flocked to the comments section to share their appreciation for The Wonder Years, which was a period piece focusing on Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage) and his family in the 1960s and '70s.
"It can’t be understated how great this show was. I’m 42 and grew up with it and still will watch on stream today. The perspectives, the classic songs played in each episodes, the classic Arnold family, the characters of you will, Truly art," wrote a commenter.
"Happy 38th anniversary to this masterpiece," added another.
"Awww… Happy Anniversary to the Wonder Years!!! My family & I watched every week, and I had the hugest crush on Fred Savage! What a cutie! So many sweet memories of watching through the years. Thank you for this wonderful family show!!" shared a different person.
"Awesome! When we were kids I don’t remember seeing titles to the shows when they aired but apparently the episode that I remembered impacting me was called 'Courage' from season 4 episode 17. (Had to google it by describing the episode) I really hated seeing Kevin not defend Winnie. I was 9 when that aired, lol. One of the shows that made me want to defend everyone and everything," commented another.
Danica McKellar Shared Her Favorite Storyline From 'The Wonder Years'
In a 2018 interview with TODAY, McKellar shared her favorite storyline from The Wonder Years. She explained that she appreciated Winnie's excellent math skills, as she is a mathematics writer after receiving a mathematics degree from UCLA. In addition, she said she believed the storyline was ahead of its time as the show "was set back in the 1960s and at that point, it wasn't really socially acceptable for girls to do better at math."
She also said Season 4, Episode 20, wherein Winnie ends her relationship with Kevin, has "always stuck with [her]." She explained that she had just broken up with her real-life boyfriend "like a week" before shooting the scene, causing her to feel genuine emotion.
