At long last, Bridgerton season 4 has finally landed on Netflix and while it is only the first four episodes of the series so far, we've once again been plummeted back into the world of yearning, love and steamy romance.

This new outing thrusts Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) into the limelight, with the pair making their acquaintance at a masquerade ball in the first episode. However, what Benedict doesn't realise is that Sophie is actually a maid working for Lady Araminta (Katie Leung) and thus, issues of class and social politics run rife in these new episodes.

While there are new characters to get acquainted with and a brand new love story to get swept up in, one of the other main draws of the Regency period drama is its music. While the series may be set in the early 19th century, it often feels like the characters are partying in modern day thanks to a myriad of classical pop covers.

The most recent season boasted the likes of Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Pitbull and Ariana Grande, with this new batch of episodes featuring classical covers of Paramore, Olivia Rodrigo and Coldplay.

Speaking about the tunes featured throughout this season, music supervisor Justin Kamps told Tudum: "We have a lot of covers that aren’t necessarily part of ball sequences this year, and it’s because we found some cute places to insert something that can play as a fun cover [but] doesn’t necessarily have to be attached to a dance sequence."

Two-time Grammy Award-winning artist Tori Kelly is also the first to record an original song for the popular period drama, saying of the experience: "The fact that this is the first time an original song has been a part of Bridgerton makes the whole experience feel even more special!

"Really, I’m so excited that I get to be a part of this amazing show in my own way."

Discussing the soundtrack with The Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Jess Bromwell told The Hollywood Reporter: "I’ll say, this season because it’s leaning more into the rom-com sensibility and has at its heart a very strong woman, it felt right to include some pop anthems from some really strong women. So you’ll see Taylor Swift. You’ll see Demi Lovato. You’ll see Billie Eilish, etc.

"But when we’re choosing songs, we think a lot about what is gonna make people lean in and go, “What’s that song?” Versus what’s instantly going to be recognizable and take people too quickly out of the show. We want to tiptoe that line as much as we can."
