A Utah man was arrested after police officers were called about a woman heard screaming from inside his apartment, where they eventually found her bloodied and yelling for help, according to authorities.
Demian Edgar Austin Robbins, 55, was taken to custody on Wednesday, January 28, on charges of kidnapping and aggravated assault, according to Salt Lake County records viewed by Us Weekly.
Information on his legal representation was not immediately available on Friday, January 30.
On the evening of January 28, someone who had been near Robbins’ Salt Lake City apartment told officers that they had heard a woman scream “let go of me, you’re hurting me,” according to police, ABC 4 Utah reported.
The witness said the scream came from the inside of Robbins’ residence and also shared that they heard Robbins ordering someone to “get back inside,” police said.
When officers arrived at Robbins’ apartment afterward and knocked on his door, he would not open it, according to police, ABC 4 Utah reported. He allegedly told the officers that there was no woman in there with him.
Eventually, however, Robbins did open the door, according to court documents viewed by KSTU.

When he did, the officers saw that a woman ran out from the residence, screaming and covered in blood, authorities said, the TV station reported.
She was saying “help me,” according to ABC 4.
Investigators noticed her face was covered with blood, and that it was bruised and swollen — particularly her nose and the right side of her face, KSTU reported.
The woman told police that she thought her nose was broken, and that Robbins had barricaded her inside his apartment, according to the TV station.
He is accused of blocking off the door with a garbage can and a bicycle.
Robbins attacked her when she tried to escape, according to the woman, who told police that he grabbed her head and slammed her face “into the ground several times,” KSTU reported.
In an interview with police, Robbins said that it was typical for him to place a trash can and bicycle in front of the door when he has people over, according to documents viewed by the TV station. Robbins also allegedly admitted that he physically tried to stop the woman from leaving his apartment, including by elbowing her in the face.

It is unclear what led to the attack, as authorities have not specified a potential motive or disclosed the nature of the relationship between Robbins and the victim.
Authorities told ABC 4 that the attack was not domestic violence related.
The Salt Lake City Police Department did not immediately offer a comment when contacted by Us Weekly on Friday, January 30.
If Robbins is convicted of kidnapping, he could face around three to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 under state law, according to Intermountain Legal.
If he is found guilty of the third-degree felony charge he’s facing, Robbins could be sentenced to five years in prison and fined up to $5,000, according to the Conyers & Nix law firm.
