Catherine O’Hara will reportedly be honored in an intimate ceremony as her family mourns the loss of one of comedy’s most beloved performers.
The actress diedFriday, January 30, at age 71 “after a brief illness,” according to her representative and per multiple outlets. In an obituary shared by her rep, it was confirmed that “a private celebration of life will be held by the family.”
As previously reported, first responders were called to O’Hara’s Los Angeles home around 4:48 a.m. on January 30, according to a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department. The “approximately 70-year-old” unnamed female, presumed to be the Schitt’s Creek star, was transported to a hospital in “serious condition.” Dispatch audio later indicated the person at the address was experiencing “breathing difficulty.”

At this time, her official cause of death has not been publicly disclosed. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Bo Welch, and their two sons, Matthew and Luke.
O’Hara’s passing comes less than six months after her final public appearances. In September 2025, she attended the Emmy Awards alongside Welch, where she earned two nominations. One was for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Patty Leigh in The Studio. She was also nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for portraying Gail Lynden in three episodes of The Last of Us.
Fans and friends alike have been posting tributes for the late comedian, including costars MaCaulay Culkin and Michael Keaton, among others.
