O'Hara's cause of death remains unclear, however, the actress once shared that she was born with a rare genetic condition called situs inversus, causing her heart to sit on the opposite side of her chest.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, situs inversus is a condition "in which the organs in your chest and abdomen are positioned in a mirror image of normal human anatomy. Nearly all of the organs in your chest and abdomen develop in your body in a left-right formation. In situs inversus, your organs develop in a right-left formation."
The condition affects about 1 in every 10,000 people — and most people don't even know they have it. Situs inversus is typically harmless, but in 5 to 10% of cases, it's linked to a congenital heart defect.
There is no evidence to suggest situs inversus caused or contributed to O'Hara's death.

The actress first revealed she had the condition during a Virtual Happy Hour with winemaker Kathryn Hall in 2020.
“I’m a freak,” she joked at the time.
O'Hara then explained she had a type of situs inversus called dextrocardia, where the heart points toward the right side of the chest and other organs are flipped.
She learned about the condition more than 20 years prior during a doctor's visit with her husband Bo Welch.
“I love Western medicine, I just don’t want to be a part of it. But I had to get a TB test when our youngest was in co-op nursery school and I went to my husband’s doctor and he said let’s do some baseline tests, and one of them was an EKG,” she said, before sharing she was confused when the doctor tried using two different EKG machines and then ordered a chest x-ray.
“I was like, ‘What is happening?’ He calls us into his office and says ‘You’re the first one I've met!’” she said of her diagnosis, noting she had never heard of the condition prior.
“I’m one of seven kids and my parents were already gone and left the world by that time. Never heard anything about this,” O'Hara added. “We’re driving home and I think, ‘I wonder about my other siblings if they know where their hearts are!’”
