The NFL Salary Cap is Taking Another Huge Leap in 2026

The 2026 NFL salary cap is taking another major jump, which is good news for the Chicago Bears.

NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero shares an update that front offices and players alike will be celebrating as the 2026 NFL salary cap could balloon to $305.7 million:

The NFL informed clubs today it is projecting a 2026 salary cap in the range of $301.2 million to $305.7 million per club, per source. That would represent another significant jump from this year’s $279.2 million cap number, and nearly $100M than the $208.2M cap in 2022.[image or embed]

2026 NFL Salary Cap Boost Could Help the Chicago Bears

To give these NFL salary cap numbers some extra depth and perspective, this is what the salary cap has looked like since this site’s inception:

    2017: $167 million 2018: $177.2 million 2019: $188.2 million 2020: $198.2 million 2021: $182.5 million 2022: $208.2 million 2023: $224.8 million 2024: $255.4 million 2025: $279.2 million

In other words, we’re looking at a potential jump of $134.2 million in nine years. That is a preposterous leap. And a most impressive one at that!

When Patrick wrote his quick look at the Chicago Bears salary cap situation, OverTheCap’s projections had the 2026 NFL salary cap pegged at $295.5 million. That the projected range for the 2026 range starts at $301.2 million is significant news on its own. It would be helpful for the Bears if the league settles on a $301.2 million number for 2026. But if that number can stretch to $305.7 million, I think folks would be doing cartwheels at Halas Hall.

A FIRST LOOK AT THE CHICAGO BEARS 2026 NFL SALARY CAP SITUATION

To be clear, the Bears still have a lot of work to do in order to get under whatever the projected 2026 NFL salary cap ends up being in March. But getting somewhere between an extra $5.7 million to $10.2 million would help chip away at the work that the number crunchers at Halas Hall will have to do to get this team cap compliant. Every little bit helps, after all.
