Just moments after news of “Home Alone” star Catherine O’Hara’s passing, her co-star Macaulay Culkin posted a heartfelt tribute on social media to his movie “mama.”
O’Hara, known for her role as Kevin McAllister’s mom in “Home Alone,” died at the age of 71 Friday, her rep confirmed. No cause of death has been given.
In his message Friday afternoon, Culkin wrote that he “thought we had time” as he shared images from a scene in the Chicago-area-set film.
“I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much to say,” he wrote. “I love you. I’ll see you later.”
O’Hara and Culkin recently reunited in the public eye to celebrate Culkin’s Hollywood star on the Walk of Fame in 2023.
“Home Alone was, is and always will be a beloved global sensation … the reason families all over the world can’t let a year go by without watching and loving Home Alone together is because of Macaulay Culkin,” she said during a speech at the ceremony.
She called Culkin’s performance in the film “perfect,” saying, “I know you worked really hard, I know you did, but you made acting look like the most natural thing in the world to do.”
“Macaulay, congratulations. You so deserve your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And thank you for including me, your fake mom who left you home alone not once but twice, to share in this happy occasion. I’m so proud of you,” she said, bringing Culkin to tears.
O’Hara has long expressed her love for the film that brought her to the Chicago area and left her being a part of so many family’s holiday traditions.
“You never know how something’s going to turn out and you hope for the best, but all you can go on is the script and the people that you get to work with. And in that case, it definitely worked out,” she told E! News during an interview in 2021.
Even then, she knew her legacy and her role in holiday magic would live on.
“To think that I’m in one of those movies that has become a tradition for other people and their families?” she said. “That’s great.”
