Fans may have found themselves frustrated and angry at Benedict (Luke Thompson) in Bridgerton Season 4 Part 1 over his inability to deduce that Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) is his mysterious Lady in Silver. Bridgerton Season 4 follows Benedict as he begins to let go of his lifestyle as a "rake" when meeting the mysterious Lady in Silver at his mother's masquerade ball. When the clock struck midnight, she ran off, leaving behind her glove. It begins with a whirlwind of feelings of Benedict becoming infatuated with finding her, believing she may be the one to finally get him to the altar.
At the same time, Benedict is unaware that the Lady in Silver is Sophie, a housemaid of a different social class. It just so happens that Benedict and Sophie cross paths, leading to a forbidden romance, but the Bridgerton is still unable to realize she's his Lady in Silver.

"It's not really about literally whether or not he would have recognized [her]," Thompson says. "It’s interesting because I think it says something about Benedict, that he is… in some way, it’s his flaw, right? He's a bit blind."
Thompson adds that Benedict is unable to "tie up" fantasy reality, with his character stuck on wanting both women for what they offer. The Lady in Silver offers a suitable marriage, while Sophie offers sizzling forbidden romance, claiming Benedict's established M.O. is his "weakest" link.
"We all go and do things for years, or don't think to do things for years, or aren't aware of things for ages, and then suddenly the penny drops…. We all have blind spots, and there's Benedict’s," explained the actor.
On the other hand, Brownell believes Benedict's blindness is due to the characters' differences in social class. She admits, "there was just no way that a gentleman would expect a maid to have been at a ball," adding the "class division" plays a role in the "reckoning" of Benedict's character.
The showrunner also plays into Episode 4's key scene where Benedict realizes the idea of having the Lady in Silver is fading amid his growing feelings for Sophie, the maid.
