AURORA — More than a dozen Boulder Valley and Northern Colorado brewers won awards last week at the Colorado Brewers Cup, a competition where Greeley’s WeldWerks Brewing Co. brought home one of the top honors: Mid-Size Brewery of the Year.
“The number and quality of entries at the Colorado Brewers Cup is a testament to the fact that Colorado is home to some of the best beers in the country and truly is the State of Craft Beer. For WeldWerks to rise to the top of such a competitive landscape demonstrates our entire company’s constant hard work,” WeldWerks founder Neil Fisher said in a prepared statement.
The Colorado Brewers Cup, organized by the Colorado Brewers Guild, featured 120 breweries and 772 beer entries competing for medals in 29 categories.
Among the local winners were:
• Crystal Springs Brewing Co., Louisville: Gold medal in the Fruit Beer category for its Blood Orange Kolsch offering; Gold, Belgian-Style Strong Blonde Ale, Naughty Marilyn; Bronze, American Lager, Louisville Lager.
• Fritz Family Brewers, Niwot: Bronze, South German-Style Bernsteinfarbenes Weizen, Haystack Hefe.
• Left Hand Brewing Co., Longmont: Bronze, Experimental India Pale Ale, Colorful Colorado IPA; Bronze, Best Bitter, Sawtooth.
• Liquid Mechanics Brewing Co., Lafayette: Silver, American-Style India Pale Ale, American Idle; Silver, Wood- and Barrel-Aged Strong Beer, Rally Round The Family.
• Mythmaker Brewing, Fort Collins: Bronze, Honey Beer, Isaac’s Big A** Braggot.
• Odell Brewing, Fort Collins: Bronze, Classic Irish-Style Dry Stout, Old Dood Stout.
• Peculier Brewing, Fort Collins: Silver, Traditional German-Style Bock, Bärenbräu Bock.
• Salt Road Brewing, Fort Collins: Gold, Strong Bitter, Young Dukinfield.
• Stodgy Brewing Co., Fort Collins: Bronze, English Porter, English Porter.
• The Post Brewing Co., Lafayette: Bronze, Bamberg-Style Maerzen Rauchbier, Sweater Gang.
• TightKnit Brewing, Evans: Silver, Fruit Beer, Luna Lucha.
• Verboten Brewing & Barrel Project, Loveland: Gold, British-Style Barley Wine Ale, Grow Old With You; Silver, Strong Ale, Mountain Man; Gold, Dessert or Pastry Stout, Others in Darkness: Coconut Vanilla.
• Verboten North Brewpub, Fort Collins: Gold, American Light Lager, Gold in the Buckle; Bronze, American-style India Pale Ale, Just Logic.
• WeldWerks Brewing Co., Greeley: Silver, Juicy or Hazy India Pale Ale, Juicy Bits; Gold, Juicy or Hazy Imperial India Pale Ale, Juicy Fish; Silver, Juicy or Hazy Imperial India Pale Ale, Extra Extra Juicy Bits; Gold, Lactose/Pastry Sour, Grandma J’s Strawberry Rhubarb Pie.
• Westbound & Down Brewing Co., Lafayette: Bronze, American-style Pale Ale, Colorado Pale Ale.
• Windfall Brewing Co., Westminster: Gold, Classic Saison, Windfall Saison.
