The suburban 19-year-old accused of stabbing a pregnant mother to death earlier this week is in critical condition Thursday night from self-inflicted wounds, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office said.
Around 5 p.m., Nedas Revuckas sustained injuries in his housing unit at the DuPage County Correctional Center, authorities said. He was immediately treated by Correctional Center medical staff and transported to a local medical facility for treatment.
Authorities said he is in critical condition and preliminary investigation suggests his injuries were self-inflicted. No other individuals are believed to be involved.
Revukas has been charged with first degree murder, intentional homicide of an unborn child, armed robbery, aggravated arson and animal cruelty in connection with the killing of a 30-year-old pregnant woman named Eliza Morales.
Prosecutors say he also lit her apartment on fire and stabbed her dog, all over because he was “upset about the condition” of a Ford Ranger truck he recently purchased from her husband.
He was ordered to be detained until his trial at a court hearing earlier in the day Thursday.
