ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A staple of Rochester’s airwaves has passed away. Fred Hoffman, the owner of Hoffman’s Appliance, has died at 83.
Known as “The Small Money Dealer,” Fred passed away peacefully after a long illness on Jan. 22. He was the third generation to lead Hoffman’s Appliance, which has served the community for over 100 years.
Hoffman’s opened as a candy shop and bookstore on Joseph Avenue, then grew into Hoffman’s Music Shop. Hoffman’s was the first local store to sell radios during the 1920s.
A celebration of Fred Hoffman’s life will take place in May at the Oak Hill Country Club. The family asks, instead of flowers, to donate to UR Hospice. You can do so here.
