Diamondbacks’ Merrill Kelly to tee it up at star-studded WM Phoenix Open Annexus Pro-Am

The Arizona Diamondbacks recently welcomed back right-handed starting pitcher Merrill Kelly and now the WM Phoenix Open Annexus Pro-Am will feature the former Sun Devil for the second time.

Kelly, a key piece in Arizona’s run to the 2023 World Series, was announced in the third batch of celebrities committed to the pre-tournament event on Feb.4.

    He joins Olympic swimming royalty in Michael Phelps and Country Music Awards New Artist of the Year Zach Top, according to a press release.

    Kelly, 37, pitched six full seasons in Arizona before being dealt to the Texas Rangers last season, where he made 10 starts after the MLB trade deadline. He has a career ERA of 3.77, has made 172 starts in seven seasons and has accumulated a 15.9 bWAR.

    In the 6-foot-2 righty’s lone postseason, Kelly put together a 3-1 record over 24 innings pitched, including five innings of one-run ball in a crucial Game 6 against the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2023 NLCS.

    Phelps owns 23 Olympic gold medals across five times representing Team USA and was named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year for his all-time best eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Games.

    He played alongside Kelly in last year’s Pro-Am, notably getting some high-five love for a chip-in par on the 10th hole at TPC Scottsdale.

    Phelps is set to make his 11th appearance at the WM Phoenix Open celebrity showcase.

    Top had a breakout 2025 in the country music world with his studio album “Ain’t In It For My Health” being nominated at the Grammy Awards for “Best Traditional Country Album.” His song “I Never Lie” on his 2024 debut album “Cold Beer & Country Music” achieved No. 1 on country radio.

    The 28-year-old from Sunnyside, Washington, will make his first Pro-Am appearance and will also be a fixture at the Coors Light Birds Nest concert series on Feb. 5, which will get rocking after the first round of the tournament.

    Travis Kelce, three-time Super Bowl champion and Kansas City Chiefs tight end, and Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith will also represent the NFL in Scottsdale.

    Olympic gold medalist and two-time FIFA World Cup champion Carli Lloyd was also a commit.

    The 2026 WM Phoenix Open begins Monday with the first of four tournament rounds on Thursday. Fans can purchase tickets online.
