The Auburn men’s basketball program endured some uncharacteristic struggles earlier this season under first-year head coach Steven Pearl, but those growing pains appear to have instilled some serious grit and resiliency in the Tigers.
This was illustrated perfectly during their mid-week matchup against the Texas Longhorns, where Auburn battled back from an 8-point halftime deficit to pull out a come-from-behind win against a very tough Longhorns’ squad.
Pearl was asked about his team’s gritty win when he called into the Cubelic and McElroy radio show on Thursday morning, and he credited his guys’ maturity as the primary reason for the Tigers’ win.
“Our team doesn’t win that game a month ago,” Pearl said. “The progression that our team has made over the last month and since Christmas has been encouraging for me as their coach, and we’ve shown a lot of growth. We’ve shown a lot of maturity, and we’ve found ways to win games in some interesting fashions.”

The comeback win over Texas on Wednesday night marked the fourth straight win for Auburn, which is good for their longest win streak of the season thus far. Pearl will now look to maintain that momentum over the back half of his team’s SEC schedule, a gauntlet filled with tough tests leading into March Madness.
Auburn will be in action again on Saturday against Tennessee in Knoxville.
