Samuel Adams just announced an all-new beer variety, and this is certainly one for the moment.
After introducing its first new winter exclusive beer in decades, the cult-favorite craft beer brewer is announcing another addition—and this one taps into a popular flavor trend while also being significantly stronger than some other brews. While its alcohol by volume (ABV) isn't as high as that of its extremely potent Utopia beer (30 percent ABV), the newcomer is still nearly twice as potent as its best-selling Boston Lager (5 percent ABV).
Unlike other recent offerings, Sam Adams' latest drop—the new Cherry Bomb ale—is a permanent release.
Samuel Adams Makes a 'Bold Move' With New Cherry Bomb Beer
Samuel Adams' new Cherry Bomb is an Imperial Wheat Ale with nine percent ABV, according to an official description. It's said to feature an explosion of "bold, juicy black-cherry flavor, with just a touch of candied sweetness." It's the latest cherry-flavored item to be unleashed on the public in recent months, following the highly anticipated return of Diet Cherry Coke and the debut of several new Häagen-Dazs Ice Creams.
It's made with a two-row pale malt blend, malted wheat, Simcoe hops, honey, and real cherry juice, then mixed with the brand’s "legendary" ale yeast. The result? A full-bodied beer with a golden, slightly veiled appearance and aromatic notes of black cherry and honeyed wheat. Sam Adams says it delivers "dark candied black cherry juice with a kiss of honey, complemented by notes of red licorice, cherry tartness, and cereal from the malt." It finishes with a "clean, lingering tart cherry finish and a hint [of] booziness."
“We saw a massive opportunity to bring our signature craftsmanship to the high-ABV category with a flavor that consumers love but isn't currently in the marketplace,” John McElhenny, senior brand manager of Samuel Adams, explained in a statement.

It may be high ABV, but according to a press release, "you’d never know it from the clean, crisp finish," which is filled with "big flavor" and "refreshingly smooth with every sip." The brand calls it distinctly Sam Adams.

"Cherry Bomb is perfect for beer lovers who want bold, juicy cherry flavor and higher ABV without sacrificing a crisp finish," McElhenny added, noting it's "perfect for savoring it solo or sharing it with friends."
Samuel Adams' new Cherry Bomb ale will be available year-round in 19.2-ounce single-serve cans (also known as "stovepipes"). It's expected to be on shelves at convenience stores, liquor stores and grocery stores now.
