Sage Hill’s girls basketball team experienced a different type of excitement Wednesday night at Rosary.

The Lightning enjoyed crunch time to clinch another league title.

One night after watching its point guard Amalia Holguin erupt for 61 points, including an Orange County record 14 3-pointers, Sage Hill used a 9-0 run in the middle of the fourth quarter to beat Rosary 65-50 and clinch a fourth consecutive Pacific Coast League title.

Rosary (18-7, 4-0), ranked 11th in Orange County, cut the lead of No. 1 Sage Hill to 52-46 with about five minutes left in regulation. The Lightning (23-4, 7-0) responded with the 9-0 surge sparked by a 3-point play by Addison Uphoff off an assist from center Eve Fowler.

Sage Hill pulled away and pushed its winning streak to 18 games.

“It was an exciting game,” interim Sage Hill coach Jethro Julian said. “(Rosary coach) Leslie (Aragon) is a great coach.”

“Our focus is making a run in the playoffs,” the coach added.

Uphoff followed her 3-point play by driving for a layup.

After a steal by Holguin, the Texas-bound senior used some fancy dribbling to handle Rosary’s pressure and feed Fowler for a basket.

Sage Hill led 59-46 and added another basket to take control.

“Rosary is a good team,” Holguin said. “Have a good coach, good players, good people. They known play basketball and move the ball.”

“We needed to get some more energy,” she added. “We just had one of those games, but it won’t happen again.”

Fowler, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds, five blocks, three steals and two assists. Uphoff scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to finish with 18.

Holguin scored all seven of her points in the first half and finished six assists, one block and a steal.

Kamdyn Klamberg chipped in nine points and five assists for Sage Hill, which is undefeated since joining the Pacific Coast League in 2022-23.

“Winning (league) with this team is awesome,” Fowler said. “All of my teammates are such amazing people. They support and work hard.”

Aragon was encouraged that his team drew within 52-46 on a basket by Maddison White.

“If you would have told me that we would be at 52-46, I would have took it all day long,” the first-year coach said. “We had some lapses in effort during the first half, and (Sage Hill) will do that to you. … But the second half, if we compete like that against anybody, we’ll be really good.”

Kate Duarte made several tough shots in the post to finish with 14 points.

Emalynn Vong opened the fourth quarter with her second 3-pointer of the second half to spark Rosary’s surge.

Vong (10 points) and Riyanna Meaders (11) each reached double figures while Izzy Holmes had seven assists.

Also in the Pacific Coast League:

St. Margaret’s 36, Portola 32: Taylor Francois scored 12 points and Lila Wohlgemuth added nine points as the host Tartans (19-6, 3-3) moved into third place.
