An Erie police officer is under internal investigation after being accused of posting a Facebook comment that appeared to condone shooting Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the head.
The Erie Police Department said it started investigating the officer — identified as Haili Shimko by spokesperson Amber Luttrell — on Sunday, according to a social media post.
The department acknowledged the investigation in response to a post by the X account Libs of TikTok, a right-wing political commentator with 4.6 million followers.
In its post, Libs of TikTok shared a screenshot of the alleged comment from the officer, which stated, “they wear armor so headshots would work better.” That comment was allegedly referring to ICE agents being shot, Libs of TikTok said in its post.
“Employee use of social media and public commentary is governed by policy and directives,” Erie police officials wrote in their response to the Libs of TikTok post. “Staff are expected to comply with police department directives and town social media policies.”
The Daily Camera could not independently verify the post that the officer allegedly commented on.
Erie police officials declined to share more information in their response while the investigation is ongoing.
