In a joint statement included in the agreement, Zissi apologized to students, alumni, and the school community.
“I now understand the severity of my prior conduct and the risks it created,” he wrote. “I have apologized for my actions and the actions of my coaching staff and vow to adhere to strict separation between my role with Adrenaline and future Torrey Pines coaching responsibilities.”
Community support played a key role during the period Zissi was off the field. Parents, alumni, and players attended multiple board meetings last fall, urging the district to reinstate him, citing his leadership and mentoring of student athletes.
