Are you ready to get witchy this spring?
Witch Club Satan will cross over the Atlantic for the first time. Dubbed “black metal provocateurs,” the group (Johanna Holt Kleive, Nikoline Spjelkavik, Victoria Røising) has only been around a few years, but they’ve quickly developed a following. And now, they’ll bring their brand of extreme music to the shores of North America.
"We feel like it's the right time to head overseas and provide some much-needed witchcraft,” the band said in a statement, per Metal Injection. “Through social media, we have been invited by countless fans, asking us to come to the United States. Being welcomed is a big deal to us — and our main reason to travel is to give an invitation in return. In times of division and chaos, we hope to offer a shelter and community within our coven. We are preparing for a powerful ritual."
The 16-date tour runs from May 27 to June 16, kicking off at Philadelphia’s Underground Arts before heading to Toronto’s Prepare The Ground Festival, where they’ll share the stage with the newly reformed Torche, legendary doom metal band Pallbearer, …And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, and so many more.
The tour will then hit cities such as Baltimore, New York, Detroit, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, and Portland before wrapping up in Seattle. The first half of the tour will have dance/electronic artist Penelope Trappes as the opener, while Patriarchy—the LA-based metal band featuring artists Actually Huizenga and Andrew Means—will join on the tour’s second half.
Tickets go on general sale Friday, January 30, at 10 am local time.
The Norwegian trio formed after meeting at theatre school. “We knew there was potential in the energy of the three of us,” said Røising in a Louderfeature. “After two years of lockdown, we had this explosion that we needed to get out somehow. We found there was only one way to do it, and that was black metal.”
For those concerned about their name, the band said that “Satan” represents “a kind of joker figure” who is more a symbol of “rebellion and freedom.” Those themes play heavily in Witch Club Satan’s music.
Oddly, for a genre associated with burning churches, anguished performers covered in “corpse paint,” and (unfortunately, far too often) national socialist rhetoric, Witch Club Seven has been considered too extreme for black metal? Why?
Because the trio incorporates feminist themes into their music, often railing against the injustices women have endured throughout the years.
To be angry women is still very radical for some,” says Røising. “For me, it’s been a challenge. But it’s really freeing, and it’s important to use the anger for something you believe is a good thing.”
“I feel that black metal is a really feminine genre,” Johanna Kleive told Louder. “Because women have screamed throughout history. Many people who have seen us perform tell us it feels like we scream not just one woman’s scream, but every woman’s scream.”

Both Spjelkavik and Røising grew up listening to black and extreme metal. Kleive, who was raised on jazz and classical music, came to the group as a new fan. “I had to learn from this genre, and learn how to find my voice in it,” she said. “Suddenly I realised it has everything to do with me, and the girls as well.”
The group released their debut self-titled LP in 2024; former Satyricon/Celtic Frost guitarist Anders Odden produced it. On top of that, they’ve earned a cosign from Necrobutcher of Mayhem, one of the pioneers of the Norwegian black metal scene.
With a visually captivating stage show that makes use of the members’ theatrical background, Witch Club Satan has created a “movement of witches” within the black metal scene, and they’ll soon bring it to North America.
