Tarek Al-Houbi, Head of the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), met with Farah Al-Zarooni, Assistant Under-Secretary for Standards and Regulations at the UAE’s Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT), to discuss enhancing cooperation in advanced food manufacturing and regulating food systems.
Manal Abdel Latif, Minister Plenipotentiary at the Commercial Representation Office in Dubai, attended the meeting on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
Al-Houbi presented the regulatory role of the authority in developing a modern legislative and oversight framework that ensures the safety of food products, save public health, strengthens consumer trust, and supports the competitiveness of Egypt’s food sector.
For her part, Al-Zarooni outlined mechanisms for product recalls for non-compliant goods, strategies to support food innovation, and the application of modern technologies, all while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards.
The two sides reviewed policies for the registration and accreditation of new food products, recall procedures, and the development of flexible regulatory frameworks that balance innovation with the need to expedite market access without compromising safety.
Both parties also emphasized the importance of continued institutional coordination and the exploration of future cooperation mechanisms between Egypt and the UAE in the food industry sector with a view to strengthening regional food security and promoting the growth of future industries.
