70s Rock Band Announces Legendary Update 56 Years After Forming

Aerosmith is celebrating an exciting anniversary in a very legendary way.

On Tuesday, the iconic 1970s rock band announced on social media that they will be releasing Aerosmith (Legendary Edition) on March 20, which celebrates the release of their self-titled album released in 1973. This new project will include a remixed and remastered version of their debut LP record, along with two unreleased songs and a live show from Boston's Paul Mall. In addition, limited edition merchandise such as CDs, vinyls, t-shirts, bomber jackets and bundles are now available for pre-order.

The rock band was formed in 1970 in Boston by Steven Tyler, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford.

Aerosmith first started building their fanbase in 1971 when they began playing live shows around Boston. A year later, they got a record deal with Columbia Records and started working on their first album, Aerosmith, which has eight tracks and included their top hits "Dream On," "Mama Kin" and a cover of the 1963 song "Walkin' the Dog" by Rufus Thomas. Most of the songs were written by Tyler and were recorded and produced at Intermedia Studios in Boston with Adrian Barber. After the record was released, Aerosmith toured for the whole year around New England to support and promote it, opening for multiple bands such as Mott the Hoople, Mahavishnu Orchestra and The Kinks.

This album, released on Jan. 5, 1973, was not commercially successful at first, but as the years went on, it eventually peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard 200 in 1976, received a lot of radio airplay and sold two million copies.
