The rock band was formed in 1970 in Boston by Steven Tyler, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford.
View this post on InstagramAerosmith first started building their fanbase in 1971 when they began playing live shows around Boston. A year later, they got a record deal with Columbia Records and started working on their first album, Aerosmith, which has eight tracks and included their top hits "Dream On," "Mama Kin" and a cover of the 1963 song "Walkin' the Dog" by Rufus Thomas. Most of the songs were written by Tyler and were recorded and produced at Intermedia Studios in Boston with Adrian Barber. After the record was released, Aerosmith toured for the whole year around New England to support and promote it, opening for multiple bands such as Mott the Hoople, Mahavishnu Orchestra and The Kinks.
This album, released on Jan. 5, 1973, was not commercially successful at first, but as the years went on, it eventually peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard 200 in 1976, received a lot of radio airplay and sold two million copies.
