Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) has appointed Catalina Santa Peña as managing director of UMPG Mexico, the company announced Monday (Jan. 26).
In her new position, Santa Peña will manage publishing operations in the region, spearheading “creative strategy, songwriter development, and business growth” while “enhancing UMPG’s stature in one of the world’s most influential Latin music markets,” according to a press release.

“We are thrilled to welcome Catalina to the UMPG team,” said Alexandra Lioutikoff, UMPG’s president of Latin America and U.S. Latin, in a statement. “Catalina is an accomplished entertainment attorney, executive, and industry thought leader who brings a rare combination of legal expertise, creative insight, and executive leadership to her new role. We look forward to the impact she will make as Managing Director of UMPG Mexico.”
The industry leader has previously worked with Warner Chappell, Sony Music, SAYCO (Colombia’s performing rights organization), Colombia’s Ministry of Culture and the National Copyright Office (DNDA), gaining extensive expertise in copyright law, music publishing operations and public policy.
In 2019, Santa Peña founded The Artist’s Attorney (ATTY), one of Latin America’s top entertainment law firms, which operates in the U.S., Mexico and Colombia. There, she represented some of the biggest names in global Latin music, such as Karol G, J Balvin, Sky Rompiendo, Aterciopelados, Nanpa Básico, Ella Taubert and Piso 21.
Santa Peña is also the author of the 2020 guide Industria Musical Para Artistas, Music Business Para Todos (Music Industry for Artists, Music Business for Everyone). In 2025, she was recognized on Billboard‘s Latin Women in Music list.
