ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wyoming County is set to receive a significant upgrade in high-speed internet access. A $15 million state grant through New York’s “ConnectALL Initiative” will fund the construction of a countywide broadband network.
The public-private partnership with Community Broadband Networks aims to provide internet access to every household using a hybrid fiber and wireless system. Affordable plans will start at $15 a month.
The project initiative is called “Speedy C.O,W.” (Community Operated WiFi) and includes the construction of a 36-mile fiber backbone with 20 presence points across Wyoming County.
Construction of the network began in December, and the county expects to launch the service in the coming months.
