Maria Shriver wants her followers to "wake up" amid the ongoing turmoil throughout the United States.
The journalist and former First Lady of California took to Instagram on Monday, Jan. 26 to share a stern—yet hopeful—message about the current state of affairs in the U.S., specifically after the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti by ICE agents over the weekend.
Shriver, who has shared multiple posts online to denounce the shooting death of Pretti as well as Renee Good, who was killed by ICE officers in Minneapolis just weeks prior.

Starting off her latest message by telling her followers to "Listen up," Shriver wrote, "Let’s do better. Let’s find our common humanity. Let’s wake up."
"We all have to look each other in the eye. It doesn’t matter if you are running for office, running a company, or if you are going to DC to kiss the ring because you need some approvals for a contract," she continued, "No more excuses."
