Former Northwestern Diver Yohan Eskirck-Parkinson named to Canadian Olympic Bobsled Team

Former Big Ten diving finalist Yohan Eskirck-Parkinson has been named to the Canadian Olympic Bobsled team.

Eskrick-Parkinson retired from competitive diving in 2024 and began applying to medical school after completing his neuroscience degree from Northwestern.

As a diver, Eskrick-Parkinson, the Canadian/Jamaican athlete, represented the Wildcats from 2018 to 2022, qualifying for three Big Ten Conference Championship ‘A’ finals in that span.

He also dove at the 2023 and 2024 World Aquatics Championships, representing Jamaica, with his highest finish coming in Doha, where he finished 13th in the 3-meter synchronized event.

Eskrick-Parkinson returned to Calgary over the summers and had a weights coach, two-time Olympic Bobsled medalist Lascelles Brown, who suggested he give bobsled a try.

He would train for bobsled at the Ice House in Calgary as a brakeman. Eskrick-Parkinson did not go down a full track until October of 2024.

On January 23, the Canadian Olympic Committee nominated the roster that is set to compete at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Eskrick-Parkinson joins seven other members named to the men’s team, along with one alternate member. In total, between the men’s and women’s teams, Canada will bring 17 bobsleigh athletes to Milano Cortina.

The announcement of the Canadian Olympic Team comes just days after the news that former USC swimmer Carsten Vissering was named to the U.S. Olympic Bobsled Team on January 20.

“The program is going through a bit of a rebuild right now, and I think that’s why we have so many new athletes coming in to take the opportunity and see where we can get to,” said Eskrick-Parkinson in a February 2025 report from Canada Olympics. “And I think that’s cool, because it means that maybe two years down the line, or six years down the line, for some of us, we’ll be able to say, ‘Look at how far we came from!’”

In 2022, Canada earned two Winter Olympic bronze medals in bobsled and will look to continue that momentum in Milano Cortina, with the two-man bobsled competition beginning on February 16 and the four-man on February 21.
