OAKLAND — Prosecutors have filed murder charges against a man who allegedly killed two brothers, and they’re blaming him for the death of a man who was hit by a stray bullet, according to court records.
Darrell Genesis Tatmon, 40, of Oakland, was charged with three counts of murder for allegedly killing brothers Luis Antonio Valdez-Gomez and Kevin Andrew Valdez-Gomez and a bystander, Miguel Angel Ramirez. Authorities say the shooting happened around 3 a.m. on Jan. 3, inside the Sky Market on 85th Avenue and International Boulevard in Oakland.
The brothers were allegedly asked to buy marijuana from a man with Tatmon, leading to a confrontation where Tatmon allegedly taunted them as “milenials,” police say. Prosecutors allege that Tatmon started the deadly confrontation by pulling a gun, and that Kevin Valdez-Gomez fired shots — possibly the shots that killed Ramirez — in self defense. Ramirez was a regular customer in the store who was there by coincidence, his family has publicly stated.
Other men disarmed the brothers and Tatmon allegedly killed them with his weapon, standing over Kevin’s body and firing at least one shot into his chest as he lay on the ground, authorities said.
A second suspect, Angelo Pharr, was also hit with less serious charges. He faces counts of assault and gun possession for allegedly joining the fight that preceded the shooting.
The triple homicide is part of a violent start to 2026 in Oakland. So far this year, city police have investigated eight homicides in January, five of which occurred in the first week of 2026. In 2025, 66 people were killed, 56 of which were considered murders — the lowest total since 1967, according to figures compiled by this news organization.
