LSU is hiring assistant coach Ty Hatcher away from Georgia, according to a report.
FootballScoop was first with the news, noting that Hatcher has been serving as an assistant on Kirby Smart‘s staff in Athens for the last year. He’ll now join Lane Kiffin’s first staff in Baton Rouge.
According to FootballScoop, who cited an LSU source, Hatcher will have a “top role that will do a little bit of everything” for the LSU offense. His focus is expected to be with LSU’s offensive coaching staff, specifically with quarterbacks and tight ends.
Hatcher is the son of former Samford coach Chris Hatcher, who gave Smart his first full-time job in coaching back in 2000 at Valdosta State. Ty Hatcher was also a quarterback at Samford during his playing career.

At just 25 years old, Hatcher has previous experience at multiple SEC programs, including Oklahoma, Texas A&M and Alabama.
Hatcher will be part of the effort to improve LSU’s offense in 2026. The Tigers finished the 2025 campaign with just 5.28 yards per play, which ranked 100th nationally.
