Yes, I know you’re afraid that the Chicago Bulls, riding a four-game winning streak, might not sell at the deadline and instead convince themselves this team deserves a real run. Trust me, it haunts my dreams too. But even one trade, say, for Coby White—if enticing enough, might actually twist Artūras Karnišovas’ arm and force the issue.
Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen a flood of Coby White trade rumors and reports. And yet, as always, the halls remain quiet when it comes to actual deals getting done. Still, plenty of NBA insiders have gone on record noting interest in the former UNC guard.
The Coby White Asking Price
Jake Weinbach, NBA analyst and writer, reported that the Minnesota Timberwolves are actively pursuing Coby White. That part isn’t new to us. What is new, though, is the reported trade package they’re willing to offer—and what the Bulls are actually expecting in return.
According to the report, the Wolves are prepared to put together an offer centered around Mike Conley, Terrence Shannon Jr. and multiple second-round picks for White, who’s on an expiring deal. That package is well below what many were anticipating. No Rob Dillingham. No Joan Beringer. No first-round picks.
That’s not a package I’d consider good enough for Chicago right now, but it is a better starting point. In a league where desperate teams like the Orlando Magic can throw multiple first-round picks at Desmond Bane to fill a glaring hole on their roster, Coby White should absolutely be able to command more.
And this is where, for once, I’m glad the Bulls are reportedly putting their foot down. Weinbach added that Chicago is “believed to be hoping for an unprotected first-round pick” in trade talks for White.

— Jake Weinbach (@JWeinbachNBA) January 25, 2026Is there No Market for Coby White?
The Chicago Bulls are known for moving assets after their peak value, often ending up with less than they could’ve gotten if they’d pulled the trigger earlier. But does that same pattern apply to White?
Let’s look at the numbers. Coby is averaging 19 points and five assists per game in a season where he’s actually playing fewer minutes than last year due to an early injury recovery. And yet, his production is essentially identical, arguably better when you factor in the minutes. That’s why his per-36 numbers are a career high.
He’s also sitting at a 60% true shooting percentage in a season where his usage rate has increased. Over the last four games, he’s averaging 24 points and five assists while shooting 50% from behind the arc on ten attempts per game. That’s an absurd run of form, conveniently arriving right at the trade deadline to balloon his value.
White is on a $13 million expiring contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent. Any team trading for him would be doing so with the intention of re-signing him and making him part of their long-term plans. And considering he’s about to turn 26, he’s entering his prime, and would remain in it for the duration of that next contract.
Compare him to Desmond Bane, as mentioned earlier, and the numbers are closer than people might think. They’re identical in points, assists, steals, and field-goal percentage per game. White shoots better from three; Bane is stronger at the line. Bane is older, but he makes up for it with proven playoff experience. At the same time, his contract is significantly larger than what White is likely to command in free agency.

— Shams Charania (@ShamsCharania) June 15, 2025Depending on who’s making the offer, you could squint and see Coby as a cheaper, but stylistically similar, version Bane. And “cheaper” still shouldn’t mean cheap. That profile alone should command at least a couple first-round picks.
Which is why this isn’t about whether there’s a market for him, there absolutely should be. It’s about how desperate the acquiring team is, who’s actually at the table, and how well the Bulls can negotiate. That’s where I don’t hold my breath.
